Big box fun!
Today Mrs. Shepley brought us in a HUGE box! During our 'talking ball' circle we talked about things we could make out of the box. Some suggestions were: spaceship, boat, ninja hideout, haunted house, tree fort, castle, and so many more. After lunch we decided to take a vote.
Haunted house won, but not by much! Here are some friends working hard on creating the Haunted House!

Students in our class have decided to create their surveys. Some even decided to graph their results. This is a math skill that we will continue to work on throughout the year.

First, Next ( then) & Finally ( Last)
These are words we are working on in our classroom.
When we read a story we ask the children questions about the story.
We are encouraging the childen to use the words, first, then, next and finally or last.
This encourages the children to reflect back on what they have just heard( the story)
and retell the story.

Tattling vs Telling
In Kindergarten we all know that "tattling" happens A LOT.
Today at circle we discussed the difference between "telling" & "tattling".
We learned a new song that teaches us the difference.
We then made a chart that the children got to choose which category these scenario should belong in.
For example:
" My friend fell and her knee is bleeding" belongs in the telling catagory.
" Mrs.Kidd she cut me in line"- Tattle tale, you can talk to your friend and tell the child using your own words to solve the problem.
Here is the link to our new song!

Jumping Words
Today we are working on word awareness. The students were given a sentence and they were to jump in a hoop for every word that was in the sentence. For example, "I am going to the gym" would require a student to jump in 5 hoops. It is such a fun activity, and very easy to do at home!

Exploring the Wind
On one of our last nice days, our class went outside and read the story "Like a Windy Day." We talked about our senses and used them to describe the wind. The students came up with the following: Jordan said you can feel the wind on your back. Jake said you can feel it on your hair. Dayna made the noise that wind makes. Alex told us that you can't see the wind, but you can see it blow the leaves off the ground.
We explored the wind outside using streamers. The students were instructed to play with the wind. They loved it! Of course, I didn't have my camera with me. When we came in the students drew a picture of their experiences outside.
Today the students asked to bring streamers outside for recess. With the wind today, they were fun!
Carter said "The faster you run, the higher it goes!"
Science Expectations:
1.1 ask questions about and describe some natural occurances, using their own observations and representations
2.2 make predictions and observations beofre and during investigations
Language Exectations:
4.3 write simple messages, using a combination of pictures, symbols, , knowledge of the correspondence between letters and sounds.

We even tied some of the streamers around the soccer posts to watch the wind blow them.
In the past week some students have noticed that it is still windy outside. They made their own kites to test outside.
