Now that spring has finally arrived, we have been in the planting mood!
Day 1 ( May 2 2013)
Today we decided we were going to try an experiment using bean seeds and different liquids to water them.
During circle we planted our seeds in the exact same way, we placed 3 bean seeds inside of each container using 2 scoops of dirt.
We watered plant 1 with water, plant 2 with orange juice, plant 3 with pop (Pepsi) and the 4th plant we watered with 1% milk.
We then placed them in the window to begin to grow.
As a class we each made a prediction of what we think is going to happen. ( see photo below)
We talked about how we are going to water them every other day.

The EGG-periment
Today we had a talk about how certain " drinks" affect the "enamel" on our teeth.
We asked the children what drink do you think is best for your teeth and what do you think is worst for your teeth. Here are some of the answers we received:
"Pop will turn your teeth yellow" - Jake
" Milk will keep your teeth white because milk is white and it is healthy for you! "- Jake L
" If you drink pop everyday, your teeth will fall out of your face, my mom said so! " -Ryan
"Milk and water is best, there is no sugar in it "- Ruby
" The juice, water and milk are healthy, but juice and milk are best!" - Alex
We took 4 hard boiled eggs and placed each egg in a container with a different liquid. The drinks we chose to experiment with water, coke, orange juice and milk. They are located on the light table and we are going to keep them in the liquids and check them everyday to check if we see a difference.

Great website
A great online game is 'Dog's Letter Pit', from PBSkids.org. It is an awesome website for sound blending/ segmenting. This is an important skill especially for our sk's who will be entering grade one next year.

Bear
Today Ruby's bear helped Mrs. Nicholls get some centres ready for next week. Bear helped type out some sight words on the computer. He also went to the library to help Mrs. Nicholls look for some new books.
Earth Hour
Since our class has no windows, we came up with an alternate way to honour Earth Hour. We shut the lights off in the hallway and brought out our favourite books. Here are some pictures!
