Dancing Machines

Today we had music instead of gym, but that didn't stop us from getting in some fitness. We invited Mrs. Shepley and Miss. Reive's classes to join our Just Dance party!

Estimation

We have begun to explore estimation. The students are using estimation as a sign-in in the morning. Asking your child to estimate instead of actually counting allows your child the ability to quickly determine whether a set of objects is more, less, or the same when compared.

Sight Word Magic!

The students are trying to trick their friends with this easy to make sight word game. The students hide a bear under a cup, and have their friends guess where the bear is. The catch, they have to read the sight word to look under that cup!

Crafty Smowmen

Today we read a beautiful book about snowmen. The pictures showed snowmen built with different objects. Here are our very own crafty snowmen creations. Craft is a great way to engage in shape and colour recognition.

Our Bean Seed Update Day 6 and 7!

The children were so excited to see the growth of our bean seeds.
Not all the seeds have began to grow, some seeds have no growth at all.
We talked about why the bean seeds on the light table are growing but the ones in the Baggie taped to the window are not. " what could affect the growth of the bean seed?"
" Feel the window.... Is it cold or warm?"
"Feel the light table, is it warm or cold?"
We walked around the school making observation on all the bean. Seeds we have planted in different locations.
When we returned to the classroom the children paired up with their science partner and drew a picture of what they saw on day 6!

Later that day....
We read a book called Sid the seed, it talks about how roots develop on seeds.
sid drinks water, water and more water until he sprouts " arms and legs" which we have named. " roots"

Today on day 7 the plants that are in our room have went from white roots to actual green plants, how exciting!

And that is how today went in our kindergarten room!

Snow science experiment

Have you ever wondered what is in the snow you eat? Our class was not that worried, but we thought it would be fun to check anyway! We collected some fresh, not touched snow into a cup. We then put it into a coffee filter to catch the stuff inside the snow. We placed this inside a colander so that the melted water would come out. We then put the colander into a bowl to catch all the melting water. We all agreed that the snow was fresh and very clean looking. Here is what we found. The students were amazed at what they saw after the snow had melted.

Morning Message

Look how far we have come! The students are doing great when it comes to our morning message.

Future Teachers!

During free play some students wanted to write out a morning message. They used today's message to get some ideas. I loved seeing them ask their friends to sound out the words they were writing. Justin said, "Have a great day, your t t t teachers."
